Turkcell And Ericsson Performed The First 5G Connected Autonomous Mobile Robot Demonstration In Turkey, AI, Analytics & Automation Tech Tribune France

Turkcell and Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) have successfully completed the first industrial use case demonstration of the Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) Safe Crossing in Turkey. The demonstration was rolled out in close collaboration with Ericsson’s Industry 4.0 partners, autonomous mobile robot manufacturer Milvus Robotics and a global manufacturer of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial applications at Turkcell Kartal Plaza/Captive Office .

Milvus Robotics has integrated an industrial modem with 5G SA connection technology into its own SEIT 1500 AMR. Industry 4.0 partner of Ericsson, a global manufacturer of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial applications, has provided a safety laser scanner to detect, through the use of artificial intelligence (AI), blind spots on the route and detect objects that would interfere with or slow down the operation of the AMR.

The demo was deployed using both network slicing from a public network (dual mode 5G Core Standalone) and the Ericsson Private 5G network using standalone 5G technology. Ericsson Private 5G is a product offering a single-server dedicated 5G network based on a dual-mode core, providing both LTE and 5G SA simultaneously. Network slicing is another option for communications service providers (CSPs) leveraging public network investments by offering standalone 5G connectivity to their enterprise customers.

The demonstration highlighted the capabilities of 5G and private networks to allow Turkish manufacturers to process and manage, with AI, substantial amounts of data that enable the free flow of AMRs in the production environment with a high density of connected devices. As downtime and latency are critical components of an industrial system, playing a crucial role in ensuring safe operations, the demonstration also touched on 5G’s ability to provide real-time data transfer with a low latency which will improve the safety of industrial operations.

Gediz Sezgin, Chief Technology Officer at Turkcell, said, “This demonstration we made was an important step in our journey to develop private network solutions that enable smart industrial applications of emerging digital technologies. Private networks will soon be an essential part of Turkey’s industrial communications infrastructure. As Turkcell, as part of our leadership in digitizing Turkey, we continue to work with our business partners to implement the latest technologies and develop connectivity solutions that accelerate business industrial transformation processes.

Işıl Yalçın, Vice President and Head of Ericsson Turkey at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, said: “As a long-time partner and research and development collaborator, we are committed to supporting Turkcell with reliable connectivity that will facilitate the Turkey’s industrial transformation journey. businesses and elevate its ambition to build a scalable, technology-independent network. To realize this demonstration, we combined the solutions of our global partner, manufacturer of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial applications, with those of the Turkish manufacturer of AMR Milvus Robotics, and implemented one of the most important Industry 4.0 use cases using Turkcell 5G. networks. The successful demonstration of AMR Safe Crossing highlighted the importance of 5G-ready cellular networks in the industrial sector and will open doors for a range of smart factory applications in the country.

The Ericsson Connected Manufacturing: A Guide to Industry 4.0 Transformation The report highlights the use of AMR in real-time production line automation as one of the most important use cases in a company’s transformation journey to Industry 4.0. AMR’s successful demonstration has brought Turkcell one step closer to delivering solutions that propel businesses across Turkey on their industrial transformation journeys.
